Spent three nights here and despite there being a cleaner walking around (wife saw her putting her lipstick on in ladies rather than cleaning them) the toilets got dirtier and dirtier during our stay ok for getting bus to Bilbao but not much else to do in general it was run down and dirty and by far worse ACSI site we have visited not worth a night two people, motorhome with electric

Haphazard method of allocating pitches, staff were helpful, one nice new toilet block,but the other one was dated, rubbish/recycling area was messy. The bar was ok but we had a meal there which was not very good at all, tough steak!!! The “beach area” was very disappointing, muddy and access to the water was difficult. The surroundings are not very nice, an old dilapidated hotel covered in grafiti greets you on your walk to the mostly non-existent beach. we caught 2 buses to get to Bilbao for the day but the buses from Castro Urdiales to the campsite are not that frequent on the return journey but they are cheap. We were going to stay for 5 nights but left after 2. At price, not worth it, especially in comparison to some of the other ACSI sites we stayed at.

We stayed on this lovely campsite for 4 nights mainly due to the proximity to Bilbao port about half an hour drive for our return to the UK and we would definitely return as it was so peaceful a five minute walk via the on site restaurant and bar, which we would highly recommend also, takes you to a beautiful beach and Sandy cove with spectacular views. We used the local bus to reach the terminal for the national coach to Bilbao for a day trip and the town of Castro Urdiales is worth a visit and is doable on a bicycle.

Very friendly and helpful staff, especially Marco in the restaurant.
Pitches very small as are access routes. Avoid weekends if possible.
Nice bay closeby and good views. Good bus service into Castro.

3 nights in September. As said before the drive into the site is very steep - totally manageable but beware it’s a tight turn as well as a steep descent! Tiny plots, ok in September but we were praying nobody pitched up next to us as we would have been able to share their drinks with a straw!!! Not the best locality when you have a Motorhome. We cycled into Castro and it was well worth the effort, a very nice seaside town, but there’s nothing really in Islares. The beach is really non-existent, so don’t imagine yourself laying on perfect sand and sunbathing! You can swim from the steps, or wait for the small beach to appear when the tide is out. The next beach is a long walk along a pavement less busy road. On site one set of toilets has been renovated and was very nice and clean, but small. Not my favourite site although you could get fresh bread anytime of day and there were several ok beach bars/restaurants within walking distance.
